Fresno State Kids Invent!

Kids Invent! ™ Camps are non-resident camps held on the California State University, Fresno campus for students in grades 4-8.  Each summer camp is a week in duration with classes beginning from 9:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. Early drop off and late pick-up are available for an additional fee.  Our lead instructors are professionals in the fields of education, video production and photography.

Cullinan Education Center

Don’t let your children fall behind during summer break! Better yet, get them ahead of the game for their next grade level! This two-week academic camp will help prepare students for the upcoming school year and strengthen their overall academic foundation. Small group, two-hour sessions in reading, writing, and math are offered Monday through Friday for two weeks. Groups are organized by grade level: Kindergarten; First and Second grade; Third and Fourth grade; Fifth and Sixth grade. State standards for each grade level in reading, writing, and math are covered during each lesson. Lessons are taught by credentialed teachers who are also Academic Language Therapists. This inviting, engaging learning opportunity follows research-based teaching methods and the California State curriculum. The Cullinan Education Center has been a leader in helping students achieve academic success and closing achievement gaps for 24 years. The Kindergarten group is limited to ten students; all other grade levels are limited to sixteen. This camp fills up quickly, so call now to enroll.

California Learning Connection

The California Learning Connection is gearing up for a fantastic summer of accelerated learning for kids. Fresno Chaffee Zoo

Zoo Adventure Camp is an exciting way to foster appreciation and understanding of animals and nature through live animal interactions, animal observations, games, arts & crafts and many other exciting activities. Young Chefs Academy

Come this May, the staff at Kids Park will be celebrating their third anniversary; a milestone full of great memories and plans of many more to come.

Asthma & Children

Every day there are children in the Valley who struggle to breathe. Coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and tightening of the chest are just some of the problems children with asthma face.

It’s a disease that can drastically impact their quality of life if not managed well. Some children need medicine to play sports, others have difficulty sleeping. A few suffer from bad asthma attacks requiring frequent doctor visits or can even need emergency room treatment or hospitalization.

May is Asthma Awareness month and a good time to remind everyone about the asthma epidemic facing our nation. Nationwide, nearly 25 million people suffer from this disease, including 7 million children. It continues to be a public health concern and currently accounts for more than 15 million physician office visits and nearly 2 million emergency department visits each year.

Asthma is one of the most common serious chronic diseases facing our children. Asthma disproportionately affects more children here in Fresno County compared to the rest of the state. Nearly 20% of Fresno County children have been diagnosed with asthma, according to the most recent data available from the California Health Interview Survey. Statewide, 14% of children have been diagnosed with the disease.

The Valley’s poor air quality is one factor that subjects more of our children to asthma. A family history of this disease also can make your child more susceptible to breathing problems. Allergies can trigger or make this disease worse in kids.

Credit is one of the most important financial tools that most adults just don’t understand.  There are several credit misconceptions that I am sure you have heard over and over again.  There are many credit scoring models available and there are endless factors that come into play regarding your credit score.  This article will identify some of those misconceptions and provide tips on some of the major categories that determine your credit score.

Start small.

The best advice I can give when first establishing credit is to start small.  Starting with a limit under $500 is the way to go.  If you think about it, there is no real attachment to a credit card like there is with cash.  If you had to hand someone five $100 dollars bills, you would feel that money leaving your hand.  However, if you were able to just slide that piece of plastic there wouldn’t be much attachment to it.  That is why people get into financial trouble and credit card debt; they keep swiping the card not knowing how much they are spending until the bill comes at the end of the month.

Make your payments on time, every time!

Having credit is all about responsibility.  By making your payments on time every month, you are proving to future lenders that you are responsible enough to pay your bills on time.  This in turn will increase the probability that the future lender will accept your future credit requests.  To build a solid credit foundation, the credit reporting agencies are looking for 24 months of consecutive payments.

Credit utilization.

In a perfect world, you should pay off your credit card debt every month.  Being a realist, I know that not everyone will live by that rule.  It is important to understand that maintaining a high balance on credit cards can have a negative impact on your credit score.  A good rule to keep in mind is to keep your balances below 35 percent of your limit.  When you continue to carry a high balance on your credit cards the credit reporting agencies view that as irresponsible and too dependent on your credit.  By keeping a low balance-to-limit ratio, the credit reporting agency will see that you can responsibly handle your debt.
